Body Piercing Places
May 25, 2008 – 7:05 pmHave you ever been to one of those body piercing places. Individualizing your appearance is something we all try to do to stand out from the crowd. After all who wants to blend in and be boring. In the last couple decades the popularity of body piercing has been reborn. It is a form of self expression dating back thousands of years.
Have you been thinking of getting pierced you’re probably a little intimidated and have some questions? I’ll go over some of the questions I get asked most often about piercing and body art, to give you a better understanding of the whole process.
Speaking of infections if your looking into body piercing places and in talking with them about how they do things and they mention using a piercing gun, you need to stay clear of that shop because piercing guns can not be sterilized and you run a very high risk of developing an infection.
The second thing I always get asked is how much does it hurt? Well everybody is different and yeah it’s gonna hurt, but the pain fades quickly in most cases with the exception of piercing in more delicate area’s which can be a little sore for a few days.
The labret is a piercing that goes in the bottom lip, but over the years there have been many variations to this style of piercing. The labret gets it’s name from the style of jewelry worn, which is usually some type of bead ornamentation. Some variations are, Vertical labret which is down through the top of the lip and out the bottom, The Lowbret the piercing is done low on the chin, The Medusa is placed in the upper lip between the center ridges.
Your piercer should be using a freshly sterile packed cannula needle at the time of your piercing. Most piercing pain will last only a few seconds, with the exception of some delicate genital piercing’s, trust me, you want your piercer to take some extra time to ensure the safety and accuracy of these piercing’s!
Then they want to know why they should pay so much money at a piercing boutique when their friend know’s a guy that can do it for half the price. My answer is your odd’s of getting an infection are remarkably lower at the boutique, backroom piercing is an infection waiting to happen and the cause of all the horror stories about piercing infections.
Next they want to know how to pick the right piercing studio? Of all the things you want to look for in a quality piercing boutique you want to make sure they are professional, their station is spotlessly clean and their body piercing instruments are sterile.
You will find that most starter jewelry is big and oversized to assure that tearing is minimized. Once your piercing has completely healed, you can return to the body piercing place to have a more personally expressive or more appropriate piece of jewelry put in.
Be sure you pay attention to the healing time required with your piercing, and make sure you don’t try to exchange your jewelry too soon.
