Growing up, I had a tough time with my acne. I would look in the mirror each morning wondering when they would ever go away. So after spending so much time and energy doing some research, I found some pretty effective ways for getting rid of acne and clearing up blackheads. Here are some of my top tips for blackhead removal:

Washing Your Face

This may sound like simple advice, but people just don’t do it when they should. I remember during high school, girls didn’t wash their face after P.E. class. It really didn’t matter if we were all sweaty after a workout or even after running a mile. Since we had only several minutes to get ready before our next class, we all rushed just to get ready and make out hair look pretty.

My rule is to wash your face in the morning, in the evening, and when you really should do it. That includes washing your face after exercising. Pick up a skin cleanser from your local department store that is especially made for morning and night time cleansing. Some cleansers are so strong that you don’t want to use them so often. In fact, some can actually dry out your skin and make it harder to remove the blackheads. Make this a habit and you’ll get rid of blackheads and prevent them from showing up again.

Using Olive Oil

Some people say that you shouldn’t use anything oily on your skin. The truth is that your skin produces oil when your body thinks that your skin needs it. What you want to do is take care of your skin and wash it on a daily basis or when needed.

Olive oil works as a natural moisturizer. By massaging it on your face, you’ll naturally rub it away. Since the olive oil works as a lubricant, you can massage your skin vigorously without causing any harm to your skin.

Using Biore

Have you heard of Biore before? Most people use it to remove old pockets of oil from their face. It’s a white piece of paper that is made to be slightly adhesive when combined with a little water.

So how do you use it to remove blackheads? All you have to do is take a warm, clean, and damp cloth and apply it to the blackhead. Keep it there for several minutes. After doing so, apply the Biore strip to the blackhead. After 10 to 15 minutes, pull on the strip lightly. The Biore strip should be stuck to the blackhead and giving it a little tug will pull the blackhead away from your skin.

Using a Facial Scrub

This is a pretty mild, but effective method. The main thing is to use a facial scrub that exfoliates. Typicaly this helps remove old skin. However, it can be effective in removing blackheads as well. Start out by using a warm towel to help open the pores. Then use the facial scrub in a circular motion over the blackhead to help loosen it up. In time, the blackhead will become loose and be lifted away from the skin.

Using a Blackhead Removal Tool

You can find this tool in many department stores for around $15. Before using this, make sure that it is clean. Then use a warm towel or warm steam to open up the pores. Then use the tool to remove your blackhead. Make sure that you follow the instructions that are provided.

Use the sponge to dab and dot the foundation all over the face (and don’t forget the eyelids!) and then blend, downward and outward. Excess product can be removed using the opposite side of the sponge. Whatever you do, skip your neck and chin area. Concealer is the next step to a fabulously flawless complexion. Ideally, concealer should be one or two shades lighter than your foundation. If you choose a shade that is too light, it will accentuate the dark patches on your face. Apply it in a small arc underneath the eyes and on the eyelids if necessary. Draw a criss-cross to conceal any redness. If you have a blemish, be sure to conceal on top of it, not the area around it. Then, make sure you dab or tap the makeup to blend it – don’t rub it! Rubbing from side to side will actually remove the concealer. Dust a layer of powder over your entire face to reduce shine and continue to do so throughout the day for a quick touch-up. If you want to add a little color to your cheeks, try some blush. Brush down and back along the cheekbone, in an angle towards the ear.

Next, focus on those beautiful eyes. Draw attention to them with the use of an eyelash curler, followed by a coat of mascara. Make sure to use an upward sweeping stroke to coat the upper lashes. For a breathtaking look, apply some eyeshadow. Keep in mind that the lightest color should cover almost the entire eyelid and a darker color should be used in the crease of the eyelid to add depth. But when it comes to eyeshadow, there are tons of gorgeous combinations that you can try! Experimenting with eyeshadow can be the most exciting part of completing a makeup look. After eyeshadow, consider adding eyeliner. From pencil to liquid liners, you are sure to find an eyeliner that you can work with and that looks great on you. Just be warned that using liquid liners requires a lot of patience and practice. Draw the line as close to your natural lashline as possible and follow your natural eye shape. The bigger the eye – the bigger the line. And if you wear contact lenses, apply your eyeliner only after you have inserted your lenses.

Lastly, you’ll want to concentrate on creating your perfect pout. For lots of color, line your lips with lipliner, staying as close to the natural shape of your lips as possible. Lipstick can then be applied using a lip brush, especially if you have a small mouth that might be too tiny for a tube of lipstick. Not into color on your lips? Opt for a chapstick or gloss instead. Your lips will still look natural, but soft, sexy and shiny, too.

So you want to quit smoking but you don’t want to gain a bunch of weight in the process. That is probably the biggest fear among all people who want to quit smoking; that they’ll gain a ton of weight and not be able to lose it.

They feel it’s easier for them to continue smoking than to lose unwanted pounds. In order to discuss ways to keep from gaining weight, we need to evaluate the reasons why people gain the extra pounds when they quit smoking in the first place.

Stress is a key component to why we gain weight when we quit smoking. Most smokers, when they get stressed out, will reach for a cigarette to ease the stress, but when you quit smoking, you substitute the cigarette for food.

If you don’t have a cigarette in hand, most likely you’ll have a candy bar or a bag of chips in substitution for that cigarette. Most people go for the stuff high in sugar because of that sugar rush you get from eating it.

The problem is, since you quit smoking and your metabolism has slowed down, you aren’t burning those calories, so they build up and this is why you gain weight. If you want to quit smoking and not gain weight you have to figure out the reasons why you are eating in place of smoking and get control of that.

If a craving comes on, go for a long walk or listen to relaxing music. Read a book or start a low stress project to keep your mind occupied. Whatever you do, keep busy. When an overactive appetite becomes a problem after you quit smoking then consider snacking on healthier foods.

Some alternatives to sugar snacks are things like vegetables, fruit, dried fruit, and low calories types of food. Cherry tomatoes are a great snack to keep around. Dried fruit can satisfy your sweet tooth as well, with its natural sweetness.

Quitting smoking is a three-fold venture; you quit smoking, you learn to eat right, and you get into the habit of an exercise program. All these thing combined will add years to your life and make you feel better about yourself.

Don’t get discouraged if you gain a little weight once you quit smoking; it happens to almost everybody. One of the most annoying (and embarrassing) things we endure in life is a loud grumbling stomach in a nice, quiet environment. Everyone knows it’s you, so it doesn’t do any good to try to hide it. Your stomach is going to mumble and grumble no matter where you are or what you’re doing if it’s hungry.

A lot of the time people have a “stash” for such occasions consisting of chips, cookies, or candy bars. Don’t be tempted because it might satisfy your hunger, but it will add hundreds of calories to your waist line.

Rest assured, these aren’t the only foods that can satisfy your hunger. There are healthier choices out there that will fill up your stomach but not make you gain a few extra pounds. Here are some options you can try reaching for instead:

1)There is nothing worse than your 104 pound co-worker who stops at the bakery on her way to work and brings in two dozen fresh donuts. It’s cruel and should be company policy that if somebody is dieting, it is against the rules to do such a thing. Never fear; dried fruits are there to save the day. Trust me; I’m a huge fan of dried fruits; they’ve never let me down yet.

2.) Candy bars are nice ways to take a bite out of your hunger, but it’s full of calories. If you’re on a limited caloric intake each day, a candy bar will eat up most of those allotted calories, leaving you with little left for the rest of the day. Instead of biting a candy bar, how about trying some of those low-fat, low-calorie granola bars? You’ll satisfy your hunger, stick to your diet and give your body some needed nutrients as well.

3)Rice Cakes is healthier and has natural sweetness, to both ease the hunger as well as your sweet tooth. They won’t spoil quickly, so you can keep a large amount of it around for those in-between meal snacks without the guilt.

4.) What about those jelly-filled donuts or other popular pastries? They’re good for taste (and a quick sugar high) but not good for your waistline. Maybe you can consider some sugar free Fig Newton’s instead. They don’t have as much fat as the pastries and they can satisfy your fruit craving that you may be suffering from when you reach for the jelly-filled donuts.

Remember, you are in control of your own body and what you put into it. You have to make the right choices of food if you want to lose those extra pounds. Snacking is fine as long as the snack you pick is not going to stretch your designated calorie intake for the day to the point that you will have to sacrifice at your meal time.
