When it comes to 3M adhesive tapes there are a number of different types one can choose from. Each one of which has been developed and designed for a specific task and will perform reliably every time that they are used, no matter what situation they are to be used in. As you will soon discover there is going to be an adhesive tape from 3M which will meet your own particular requirements perfectly.

The company has been involved in adhesion technology development and design for more than 50 years and are in fact a well known brand around the world today. Each of the adhesive tapes that 3M produce are designed for use in a specific way. Some are designed to help bond items together, whilst others can be used to mask, protect or shield something. Then there are those adhesive tapes which can help to seal a space or hole or for damping or splicing.

Below we take a look at some of the types of adhesive tapes that this company now produces and which they have developed themselves. As well as being very adhesive some of the tapes developed are able to cope with extreme changes in temperatures.

1. VHB Tape - This is a tape designed for bonding plastic, glass or metal to each other and since its arrival has proven to be extremely reliable. No longer when you are a fixing an item to another will you need to worry about drilling or having the fasteners protruding so a much cleaner and professional look can be achieved.

2. Adhesive Transfer Tape - This tape is sensitive to pressure and comes with an adhesive surface on both sides of it just as the VHB tape does. However in order to protect one side of the tape it has a liner which needs to removed in order to stick the second surface to the first. This kind of tape is ideal for using when wanting to bond light weight materials such as paper and plastic to each other.

3. Specialty Masking Tape - This one has been developed for use with printed circuit boards, chemical baths and photographic processes. The tape contains components which allow the surface to adhere to the item and are in no away affected by the chemicals or metal that they may come into contact with.

4. Metal Foil Tape - This adhesive tape from 3M comes either as aluminum, reinforced aluminum or lead backed. But although they do have metal on their surface they are still soft and very pliable and come with a silicone adhesive. It is this silicone adhesive which allows them to be used at extremely high temperatures and still not lose any of their adhesive qualities.

The 3M adhesive tapes that we have mentioned above are not only easy to use but are also readily available both online and at your local DIY or Hardware Store. However, to ensure that they stick to the surfaces properly it is advisable that you make sure the surface is completely clean. Therefore it is a good idea to wipe the surface of the item with warm water and mild detergent to remove any build up of grease, dust or debris on it. Then allow the surface to dry fully before you actually apply the adhesive tape to it.
