Newer Vending Machines and Higher Sales
April 26, 2008 – 8:54 pmThere are many elements to consider in the vending machine business so that you can be successful. One area of controversy has to do with the look of the vending machine and the relationship it has on price. I have been curious about it and from my own observations I didn’t see that it was the main indicator that people were looking for. Of course I didn’t do any real research but I am a people watcher.
You can certainly make money with a plain looking vending machine though. What you will need to do is to compare the numbers. While you may get more sales from the pretty new vending machine with all of the features, how much of it is going to be profit? If it will less profit than you get from the basic looking ones then what is the point? Too many people don’t take the time to look at these facts though and that is where they get themselves into trouble.
Of course you will always have your consumers that look for the best price. They could care less about the overall look of the vending machine. They just want to buy the product they are after for the best price. As long as the vending machine works properly they are content.
You can be sure these newer looking vending machines will start to crop up all over the place. They are likely being sold as a way to get more sales. Yet you need to be very cautious about falling for this line of talk. There may not be such a connection between the look of a vending machine and the volume of sales. You could just end up spending more money on your equipment going this route.
The perception you have of this can be further fueled though by the vending machine industry. They are going to try to sale you the most expensive models they have in order to line their own pockets. They sale you on the idea that you will make more money with a pretty vending machine. They are very good at their job too so they will be able to smooth talk many individuals into buying one.
It comes down to being your decision but don’t let the look of it be the only influence of your decision. It could be one you end up regretting in the near future. When you are evaluating the locations to place your vending machines you may want to take a look at what your competition will be. It is best to get a good location where no other vending machines are at. Yet this may not be possible and you can’t control someone else wanting to place theirs next to yours later on either.
Do you think you can compete with how they look? Definitely something new to be thinking about in the vending machine business. Of course the goal is to find places to put them that will get plenty of business AND you don’t have competition around for it to matter.
You need to focus more on the reliability of the vending machines you have than anything else. This is what will keep your customers happy and coming back again. Wash the outside of the vending machines on occasion to remove dirt and debris. Make sure you replace anything that is broken even if it is only cosmetic in nature. If the lights are burned out it can give customers the impression that your vending machine isn’t working.
