Poker has come a long way in the public eye. Poker is not a back room game anymore. Celebrities have started to get into the game. Let’s take a look at a few of the celebrity names that are involved in poker.

A few years ago Jennifer Tilly started showing up at poker tournaments. Her boy friend Phil Laak, a top pro, obviously had been teaching her the game. When she won the WSOP ladies only event in 2005, the poker world had to take notice.

Sully Erna, the lead singer of Godsmack has been noticeably present in poker events recently. Although he doesn’t consider himself a professional by any means, he plays as much as the pros. He has cashed in the WSOP main event both of the last two years.

James Woods has been playing the home games in Hollywood for years. He plays in big buy in tournaments as well. His best result being a Third place in a WPT event. James also has invested in an online poker room.

Ben Affleck plays poker in cash games primarily. In 2005 however he decided to play in the 10,000 buy in California State Poker Championships. He surprised the field by taking the title.

Chad Brown doesn’t have the celebrity status that the others on this list do. To say he is a celebrity who play poker is backwards. He is a poker pro who was an actor. He definitely is the best tournament player on this list.

Surprisingly Chad hasn’t won a big event. His closest try was a second place at a WSOP event. He would have loved to have that bracelet. He should get a big win some time soon.

Gabe Kaplan, of Welcome Back Kotter fame, is the iconic celebrity poker player. He has been involved in poker for years. Back in the seventies, when televised poker lived in obscurity, Gabe was often the host, or the poker expert, for the commentary.

He has been going to Las Vegas for the WSOP since 1978. Over the years he has managed to reach six final tables. This has been over a nineteen year span.

Gabe still does poker commentary. He currently is in the booth for the show High Stakes Poker. His strong poker knowledge, and comedic mind, makes a great combination. He is a lot of fun to listen to.

I’m sure we’ve left some celebrities off this list that should be here. As poker has grown in recent years, many new celebrities are getting into the action. The WSOP has more celebrities than are courtside at the Lakers games. They all want to take a shot at the big one.
