You want to play some poker on the web. So, now the task is to pick the game. This article will give you an idea of the different variations available. And, these are just the Texas holdem games.

First there is the very popular multi table tournament. Here, you sit down with a group of players, maybe even thousands, and play until you lose all your chips or eliminate all other players. These can take hours to complete. The tournament lobby will tell you when tournaments will start.

A slight variation from the multi table event is the re buy/add on tournament. This plays exactly like the multi table tournaments except for the beginning. For a pre determined amount of time, typically one hour, the players can buy more chips any time they have an equal amount, or less, than the starting stack size. After this time ends, you have a choice to add on more chips one time with any stack that you have. Then it’s back to the multi table rules.

The free roll is one of the ways online poker rooms try to keep their players happy. These are normally just multi table tournaments with one big difference. They have prizes, but are free to enter!

Instead of paying full entry for a tournament, you can try a satellite. In this format you will play for a seat in a bigger multi table event. For example, a $20 satellite for a $100 event one of every five players will be awarded a seat to the $100 tournament.

The Sit and Go format of tournaments is very popular. The main difference with Sit and Go events is that they begin when a designated number of players sit at the table. So, to play in a nine player Sit and Go you start when the ninth player sits down.

Then there is the hybrid, the multi table sit and go. Everything is like a multi table event except that, there are a precise number of entries, and you don’t have a set starting time.

The most common form of poker is the cash game. There are three main cash game choices. No limit, pot limit and limit.

Heads up players are now offered heads up tournaments. Here, rounds of heads up matches are played with half the field being eliminated after each round. This continues until only one player is left.

If texas holdem isn’t your game here are a few of the other games offered. Omaha, Omaha hi-lo, stud and five card draw.

That’s a lot of options. Try to make sure you have a good idea of the differences in these various games. It will be very frustrating to lose because you played wrong for the game you chose.
