Unique Baby Shower Games
March 16, 2008 – 6:03 pmWhen choosing games to play at a baby shower the selection seems endless. Some games are fun for all involved, while others are not fun at all. This article lists some of the easier or more unique games that are available.
The Name Game If you are looking for a simple game that everyone can be involved in, the name game is your choice. If the parents know what they are going to name the baby and they are willing to share it with the guests, this fun game can be played at the party. The guests will use each letter of the baby’s name to make new words. Whoever comes up with the best or most unique words is the winner.
Mother’s Weight. Most people would not even think of playing a game like this at a baby shower. Many women are sensitive about their weight gain during pregnancy. In fact, I have only been to one shower where w played this. I have to admit it was a lot of fun, but the mother was very confident and happy with her body, and this is a must for playing this game. It is as simple as guessing the mother to be’s weight, she should model at the front of the room, doing some turns so everyone can see the whole package. The person who is the closest wins a prize.
Baby Bottle Bowling This is a game better for the younger than the older to play. You will need some baby bottles filled with a liquid; these are your bowling pins. You will need some bowling balls, small balls such as street hockey balls or tennis balls will work fine. You will need to set some rules. You may play only two shots, and the best score wins, or maybe best score after three frames. The person with the best score wins a prize. If you want a smaller game you could separate the guests into groups and have a group prize. Then ask the group to select one bowler. Whoever wins out of the bowler wins a group prize for everyone in their group.
Word Scramble. One basic game that can be used at every party is to make a list of baby related words and scramble them up. Pass out the list, and have the guests try to unscramble as many words as possible. This should be a timed game and you should make sure you include some tougher words to keep it challenging. The person with the most unscrambled words wins.
Not Allowed Not allowed is a fun game to play at a baby shower. At the beginning of the shower you need to let all the guests know what words, phrases or actions are not allowed. This could be crossing your legs, or swearing or saying a certain name. Then you can pass out a baby related item such as pacifiers to the guests. Let the guests know that they each get one pacifier and if they see another guest doing an action or saying a phrase which is not allowed that they can then steal all of their pacifiers. Near the end of the party you can collect and count the pacifiers. The person with the most wins.
Baby Advice Game. Okay, maybe this is more of a keepsake than a game, but it is still a nice activity for a baby shower. Pass out nice scrapbooking paper, or pretty shapes like hearts or heavy colored cardboard, or buy a special book for this game. Allow all the guests to give any advice they want to the parents to be, for the parents to read later when they have the time. This is a nice activity because everyone can share their own advice and wisdom and the parents can take the time to read it later, instead of trying to sort through all of the unsolicited advice they usually get.
The above games are literally just the tip of the iceberg; there are so many different games that can be played at a baby shower. Baby showers can be fun but thy can also be hectic. Before making a decision on which games to play it is a good idea to ask the mother to be how she feels about each game.
