What are the Types of Tendonitis

The movement of joints affected by tendinitis will generate a host of signs and symptoms that include pain, mild swelling, and tenderness. It is the site of the tendonitis that creates localized concerns. The tendonitis treatment that is used can depend on the type of tendonitis you have.

There are many names that describe tendonitis problems. Some of these you have heard of. They are golfers elbow, pitchers shoulder, tennis elbow, swimmers shoulder and then there is even what is called jumpers knee.

Sometimes you can have a pain on the outside part of your forearm, this pain is also close to the elbow and happens when the forearm is rotated or if you try to grab something and hold onto it and you feel that same pain, this can be tennis elbow. If you start to develop a pain that is directly above your heel you may have a Achilles tendinitis.

Adductor tendonitis brings about pain in the groin. Pain that rages just below the kneecap is associated with patellar tendonitis. Rotator cuff tendonitis is linked with shoulder pain.

Possible Tendonitis Treatments

It is the objective of patients with tendonitis to find a treatment that prevents reoccurring pain and reduces inflammation. There are two different approaches to consider: doctor-prescribed remedies and self-care at home.

One of the things a doctor will do to treat the pain and inflammation is to administer a corticosteroid injection into the affected area. You must understand that if you continue to get these injections there is a possibility to seriously weaken the effected tendon.

Exercise and physical therapy are commonly prescribed by doctors to help strengthen the muscles and joints. In a worse situation and the tendon is in serious need of repair surgery may be required.

When surgery is used to remove the damaged tendon, allows an aids in the formation of new healthy tissue. Patients with full thickness tendon tears have regained full function and reduced pain to do the removal of the damaged tendon.

Tendonitis Treatment at Home

People who are suffering from mild tendonitis can actually control their symptoms by routine treatments at home. In order for patients to avoid additional medical costs a regimen that uses the following seems to work well. This regimen includes protection, rest, ice, compression and elevation (Rice).

Protection may come in the form of slings, splints, elastic wraps, crutches, or canes, as this will promote the healing process and prevent additional injury. Resting is achieved by cutting back on the activities that worsens pain and inflammation, while ice assists in decreasing muscles spasms and swelling.

An ace bandage can be used to provide compression. Compression will help to keep the joint in its correct position and also reduce the amount of swelling. There are some cases where you may need a splint to help the joint from moving. Keep the joint elevated to reduce the blood flow, which in turn will help keep the swelling and the pain down.

Medication and rest are two of the best ways to reduce inflammation and pain of tendonitis. In conjunction with this, exercise and other prevention treatments will help in the lab a normal range of motion to the affected joint.

Sometimes when the treatments mentioned above are not effective and fail to deliver sustained relief, a more severe approach may be required. One thing that may have happened is that the tendon may have ruptured. There are times when the best tendonitis treatment is that of surgery.
