We all know that we need to make sure our vehicle is ready for driving in the winter, don’t we?

We don’t always consider this to be important during the summer though. The heat can be just as much of a problem for your vehicle as the cold.

Service your vehicle at regular intervals. Doing this can have a large effect on not only performance but resale value also. I kept my last vehicle serviced in acccordance to the manufacturers specifications and when it came to selling it, I got more for it due to its good condition.

Now I know this isn’t bedtime reading, but the owner’s manual can be your best friend - assuming you read it! At least take a look-through periodically. How about while you’re waiting to get your oil changed?

Your vehicle should be serviced at the intervals recommended by the manufacturer to avoid any major problems while out on the road.

Have the air conditioning system looked over by a qualified technician. A check up here can save you a huge bill later.

The greatest cause of summer breakdowns is overheating. Prevent this problem by making sure the cooling system is flushed and refilled as recommended.

Have your mechanic check all of the belts and hoses for wear and tear. This task can be quickly done and repairs or replacements should not cost very much.

Oil and fluid changes should be performed every 3000 miles or quarterly.

Fuel and air filters should be regularly changed.

Make sure your windscreen washer fluid is replaced as you may have used most of it during the winter.

Tires should be rotated every 5000 miles or so.

Your spare tire must by checked. Ensure it is inflated properly and is in good condition. Also check that you have sufficient tools to change it!

Transmission troubles equal money troubles equal emotional troubles! Have your transmission serviced periodically, and prevent big-time repair bills.

If you notice that your brakes are less efficient, get them checked out right away.

Have your battery checked periodically to see how much life it has left!

Check all your lights to make sure that they are all functioning.

Jumper cables, torch, flares, high visability vests and a first aid kit should all be part of your vehicles tool kit.

These are a few simple steps to ensure that your vehicle run properly through the summer months.

These check don’t take very long, perhaps half an hour every month, but can ensure your car keep running properly for years to come.
