Vehicle Tracking Devices And Its Parts
June 7, 2008 – 4:02 amIt’s nice to know that there are vehicle tracking systems that help protect and locate vehicles. For many car owners, this is a very important and useful device. Even so, they’ll admit that they don’t know much about these mechanisms. Well, one interesting fact about vehicle tracking systems is they just have two types of devices that help them work. These are the remote receiver and the transmitter. Although the different communication protocols use various kinds of hardware components, the only thing that distinguishes them are their configurations. Their functions and equipments remain the same.
The Transmitter:
The transmitter is an electronic device that is responsible for propagating a signal to be intercepted by the receiver. Depending upon the configuration of the transmitter, it can emit signals in the form of radio waves for radio frequency-type vehicle tracking systems, it can emit microwaves for satellite-based vehicle tracking systems such as GS, or it can also emit electromagnetic waves for cellular-based GPS.
A transmitter is composed of the following basic parts:
Power supply - The power supply (or power supply unit) is a device or system used to supply electrical energy to the transmitter.
Oscillator - It produces the repetitive signal, and is an electronic circuit found in the transmitter.
Modulator - The modulator is a device that varies the static waveform within the transmitter. By performing this process, it is possible to form messages out of the variety of signals produced.
Power supply - This is the unit that provides electrical energy to the transmitter.
The Receiver:
This is the other half that completes the tracking device. A remote component, it works by getting the signals sent by the transmitter. This lets the receiver determine where the transmitter is. Receivers also vary to suit the type of transmitter available.
There are many other in-depth references such as guide books that tackles deeper topics regarding the transmitter and the receiver electronic devices.
