Amazing Asparagus

Asparagus is one of the most healthy plants that people routinely eat, and whether you are trying to burn weight, build strength or simply eat in a more healthy fashion, you’ll find that by simply adding asparagus to your recipes that you can do yourself a world of good. While some people like to add asparagus on as a side dish, it can easily be seen that with a little bit of effort and research that you can do a great deal to make this appetizing vegetable an excellent main course on your dinner table.

Asparagus is very good for your wellbeing, to the extend of fruits and vegetables is set. Low in calories, ten ounces of asparagus serving will supply the much needed source of vitamins and minerals that your body needs. You will also discover that asparagus also contains zinc, calcium, manganese and copper. It is also particularly favored by expecting women and health conscious people for its high content of folic acid.

Studies have linked asparagus to anticarcinogens , which is interesting because it helps avoid tumors and cancer in lab animals who were eating the vegetable by itself. Its relatively short shelf life, you will realize, is a sign of nutrient loss in the vegetable.

You can tell when its time to throw out the vegetable when its stems start to softens and its tips become wet and slimy. Fresh in a bunch or pickled to a yellow paleness, the multiple ways available of cooking asparagus will satisfy the fussiest eaters.

If you have a love of dairy, consider making a cream of asparagus soup. Asparagus has a wonderfully mild flavor that goes quite well with cheeses and creams, and when cooked in soup, the asparagus itself will become deliciously tender while still maintaining some of its crispness. You’ll find that the addition of nuts like crushed walnuts or cashews to it will also help add to the texture.

You can create a wonderfully light lunch or dinner by simply steaming the spears and pouring your preferred sauce over it. As mentioned earlier, a creamy white sauce, or something more sweet or savory like teriyaki sauce compliments it well.
