Baby Modeling: Good Choice for Your Baby, or Bad Choice?
June 7, 2008 – 5:30 amParents think that just because the neighbor across the street, or the local pastor or teacher says that their baby is so cute, that it means they should immediately go out and find an agent and get their baby signed up to a lifetime contract in baby modeling. But is this necessarily the right thing to do? Parents should think long and hard about all the pitfalls and dangers that accompany life in the modeling world.
If that doesn’t phase you, if you still feel your cutest baby in the world is just what the baby modeling world is looking for, where do you go from there? Free contest offerings online is the first place to look. Obviously the way to a career in baby modeling is exposure, lots of it, early on, and there is no better source than the online free baby photo contests. Besides, entering your cherished one in these contests have a side benefit of being fun and rewarding for both you and your baby.
Then, the next logical step is to enter your beautiful baby in a traditional pageant, one with runways, tiaras and talent segments. Talk about fun. I’ve been to pageants like these before. In them, everyone wins some sort of prize, which is good to build up self-esteem, something your baby will need truckloads of in the years ahead.
For long term, widespread exposure, nothing beats entering an online photography contest. Once you have entered such a contest, your baby’s pictures remain online for representatives of modeling agencies to come look for upcoming talent. This goes especially for winners of these contests.
One of the biggest exposure inducers around is the infamous cutest baby contest. The title alone draws more onlookers, including other moms who can’t believe it is not their own baby being considered, but especially modeling and talent agencies on the look out for the cutest baby to adorn the next magazine cover or prance around in a television commercial wearing the latest fashions. So the cutest baby contest should definitely be at the top of your agenda as you seek exposure and try to get your cutest baby noticed by all the right people. There are several such contests online.
All this aside, I want you to pay close attention to the following. Oftentimes, parents are caught up in the starstruck lifestyle, wanting to live it by proxy through their baby. But, please, consider what you are getting you and your baby into before you leap willy-nilly into the fray. One thing to look at is how is your baby’s general disposition in life? I mean, do you have a baby who is happy most of the time, smiling and laughing at everything? This would be a good thing, because modeling agency bigwigs do not hire grumpy babies who are hard to get along with others. Bad for business.
Another area of consideration is you. That’s right, you. The parent. Are you up to the challenge? If you are overbearing or hard to work with, it’s no deal for them. They will not hire your child.
So, if you pass all these pitfalls and considerations, then I have just one more piece of advice for you. Keep in mind that you are the only one with real good intentions for your baby and his or her career. There are many disreputable agents out there looking to feed off your baby’s cuteness. If you deal only with accredited agencies, you should be safe, as they will be the ones who will be able to place your baby into legitimate opportunities.
