California White Water Rafting 101
Although it is incredibly fun, rafting can provide some risks. This is the very reason why you should plan your trip with a reputable rafting company and be prepared. You can never be too careful when it comes to things like these, so part of planning a good trip will include choosing a reliable company, knowing where to go and knowing what to bring.
Finding the right company to plan your trip with is of utmost importance. Check that the rafting company you choose has the proper licenses and that all their employees are professionals. Don’t forget to look into what equipment and safety gear will be provided as well.
If you know where to then things will be just at your level; you don’t want to end up in rapids that are way too hard for you that it will only scare you. If this is something that you have tried before or you ate a seasoned rafter then it would also be boring to go on something too easy.
There are specific river classes for each skill level when it comes to white water rafting. For families and first timers it is advisable to go on a river that is either class 1 or 2. Rivers under this class have little rough areas and will not require a lot of maneuvering.
Those are seeking more adventure and are more experienced with rafting will find class 3 and 4 rivers better. Under these classes there may be more waves and some significant drops in the river. Maneuvering will definitely be needed to get around.
Some of the best rivers for white water rafting can be found in California, namely the South Fork American River in California, Kaweah River and Tuolumne River. All these rivers differ in the in classes and adventure. There will surely be something for everyone.
The South Fork American River is the friendliest among the three rivers, which is no wonder why it is the most boated river. The Kaweah River on the other hand runs in the class 4 category and provides an exciting ride. The Tuolumne River will provide both excitement and a scenic view.
Don’t forget to bring along the right gear with you when you go on your rafting trip. Since you will be under the sun a lot, sun block and moisturizer are essentials. Don’t forget to pack clothes that are light weight and will dry easily since you will be getting wet even if you aren’t exactly in the water.
