Each characteristic should be thought of in the decision to purchase a motorcycle helmet. Lets look over the numerous kinds of these helmets.
The full-face helmet is very generally used as protection when riding motorcycles. This helmet envelopes the full face and head. Did you know that above 1/3 of the motorcycle accident the riders have mostly facial injuries? It helps to know that this helmet prevents some of these from happening in the first place. Comfort is not at the top of the list of features for this helmet though. The big beef with this helmet is how weighty and not very comfortable to wear it is. Half helmets are another category of motorcycle helmets. These do have the lowest rating on the safety scale as far as approved legal helmets go. They also do not help the face from being injured because like the open face design they have no face shielding. They are also critiques for slip and sliding on the head due to their shape.
One helmet that gives good head coverage but leaves off the face and chin protection is an open face helmet. This has the effect of allowing the rider the safety of protecting the face. These helmets most of time do not have a visor but sometimes are fixed to allow the rider to attach one. The riders of motorcycles seem to have this helmet on their preferences list of helmets.

But with the visor and chin guards being expanded this is where these two helmets are not similar. Part of the visor is created in such a way as to allow users to wear goggles replacing the visor. The chin guard is designed for added function as motocross riders fall a lot in motocross and often land on there face and added protection is given through the design of this helmet.
One of the motorcycle helmets that are not approved for safety because it does not qualify is the beanie helmet. But they look close enough to the legal helmets to fool some. These helmets are worn by riders who do not like the heaviness of the true safety helmets but don’t want to get a ticket by not having a helmet is not advised. Research and try on helmets to find which of the many motorcycle helmets you feel comfortable in while being protected.
It can be confusing to make a decision when looking at all the styles of motorcycle helmets on which will fit you best. Analyze how and where you use your motorcycle to help you decide on how much you need to be protected. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you don’t need to play it safe with a helmet. Be smart and be safe.
