Choosing a Wedding Gown or a Casual Wedding Dress
April 12, 2008 – 5:56 pmProbably the most money you will spend for a single day will be that for your wedding - the industry is worth almost 25.5 billion dollars annually and when a wedding has an average cost of approximately 25,000 dollars that’s perhaps not surprising. Organizing an enormous event like this when you are on a tight budget may seem an enormous task but it is possible; carried out properly, the majority of guests will not even realize they have attended a ‘cheap wedding’. However, sometimes all that is needed is some help with the planning to help lower that total - ideas that could help you achieve your dream day for less.
Cheap Wedding Gowns
That hand-made wedding dress is going to be the most costly individual item. As the wedding dress has probably only been worn once anyway and you can get a once expensive dress for half the price if you consider buying an evening gown or cocktail dress from a department store perhaps even look into renting your dress for the day. If this thought doesn’t thrill you, cheap wedding dresses can still be located, although you may not have the range of unusual wedding dresses to choose from that you would in the higher price ranges.
Reception Costs
Controlling costs especially on the reception is probably the hardest part; if you want a cheap wedding, this is where you may have to start, firstly by reducing the number on the guest list. Try and keep your guest list to a minimum: ask yourself if you really need to invite family members you haven’t seen for years; instead, opt for a three course meal or a hot and cold buffet.
The venue of the wedding reception can also be somewhere less expensive than the local golf club or hotel; using a small club for example will mean the drinks bill is less by only catering for wine, beer and soft drinks at the bar.
Wedding Photography
Photographers are expensive but there is generally no need to hire one for the whole day; why not have your friends and relatives take pictures during the reception. If you really want to be ‘avant guard’, why pay for a photographer at all; these days most people know someone who is a keen, capable amateur photographer, and there is nothing wrong with asking them to take photos throughout the whole day.
Low Cost Personalized Stationary
When looking at other areas where money can be saved, do not overlook wedding stationery; invitations for example, do not have to be taken to a printer when they can be produced by anyone reasonably competent with a home computer. Many people are now competent enough to produce near professional quality work; problems and errors can be corrected quickly without regular visits to the printers.With sophisticated customization tools you’ll be able to enter your own text and preview it before you print; so as not to make any costly mistakes, all from the benefit of your probably underused PC.
Flowers at the Wedding
If you want to reduce the cost of flowers, then how about this for an option; why not visit the local flower wholesaler where huge savings are possible, then all that’s needed is a little imagination when it comes to the display. Many people have friends who are very capable cooks and love to bake so why not let them bake a two or three tier wedding cake. This can be made from sponge or even a chocolate cake which tends to be favorite amongst people these days.
Transportation for the Wedding Day
It is not uncommon for someone close who has a luxury car to offer a couple the use of it for the day. Cleaned, polished and decorated with ribbons, it can look really impressive.
It may be a cheap wedding but it can still be enjoyed by everyone that attends. They do not need to know it was arranged on a very tight budget!
