Honeymoon Registry - Have the Honeymoon You’ve Always Dreamt Of
March 22, 2008 – 7:01 pmA wedding or bridal registry is a system designed by department stores so engaged couples are able to manage the purchase of wedding gifts. The couple creates a list of desired items available at the store, then the list is made available to wedding guests. As soon as a gift is purchased, the list is updated so that the item is no longer available for purchase by other guests. This to prevent that a single gift is bought multiple times. It’s a win-win situation for both the couple and the guests. The guests are sure they bought something the couple will value.
In the meantime the idea has been extended to include honeymoons. Hotel accommodations, side excursions and much more can be included on a honeymoon registry. In the same way as a wedding registry, the couple simply let their guests know about it. No obligation to buy.
It’s possible when creating a honeymoon registry you need to pay an upfront fee and your guests may be charged a service charge or transaction fee when buying something from your registry. So before you join a honeymoon registry service ask what the costs will be for both you and your guests!
These charges cover the costs honeymoon registry services are making to get the best deals with tour operators, hotel chains and airlines.
Gifts run the gamut of everything imaginable. Unlike a wedding gift registry, though, the focus is on things and activities a couple will typically pay for on a honeymoon.
It may be a couples massage on the beach. Or it could be a dolphin experience the couple always dreamt of. Scuba lessons, golf lessons and much more may be part of a honeymoon registry. The list is only limited by the couples’ imagination.
When guests have chosen one of the great gifts on a honeymoon registry in many cases they will be required to pay a deposit with the full amount to be paid only when the couple actually uses the gift.
Don’t forget to read the fine print as it may strongly differ from service to service. Find out what happens when you do not take advantage of some of the paid registry gifts during your honeymoon. Can you still take advantage of those gifts after your honeymoon?
Many others expire. When they expire, the money may be returned (minus a service fee) or the company may keep it entirely. There’s nothing fraudulent about the practice. It’s simply up to those registering to read the contract as they would any other and to make a decision accordingly.
Honeymoon registries have their pros and cons. Sometimes prices can actually be lower for those who book through the hotel’s online website, for example. But a honeymoon registry can also be a convenient and effective way for friends and loved ones to give the couple a Jeep safari in Africa or a private bungalow in Aruba.
