Marriage Records is one of the most highly searched public records and there are various reasons for it. The more prominent objectives of conducting marriage record search are checking on prospective spouse, applying for marriage license, support legal proceeding and substantiating identity claim.

Marriage records are state public records. As such, they are archived and maintained at state-level databases although most of the content is uploaded from lower-level county and city offices. The standard information retrievable from marriage records are time and place of marriage, particulars of the wedding couple, parents, witnesses and the conducting officiant of the marriage. If there were previous marriages, they will also be shown, and it is this that significantly brings about the high search-rate of this particular category of public records.

Marriage records of both parties are required when they apply for a Marriage License to get married to each other. In order for the license to be granted, both the prospective husband and wife must be of single marital status. They could be married before as long they are legally divorced at the time of application of the marriage license. Several other forms of official proceeding also require proof of identity or status by marriage records such as name change for married women, joint-tax returns, social security, insurance and so forth.

Authenticated marriage records are also recognized as proof of identification in will and inheritance matters. They are also an acceptable alternative to DNA testing in blood relation verification in cases of locating biological parents or children. Genealogy researchers, lawyers and journalists also utilize marriage records extensively in the course of their work. But the greatest use of all has to be the marital background check on someone. It could be on a prospective spouse or on behalf of somebody having a high on romance or blinded by love. It’s almost effortless, all that’s needed is a name and state of residence and that could turn out to be the big savior of the day.
