Just because a wedding is expensive does not mean it will be a success; deciding to have a cheap wedding does not mean it cannot be enjoyable for everyone. It just requires a little knowledge, imagination and clever ideas to reduce the huge amount that is spent; your special day may be more affordable than you think!
Budget Bridal Gown
Of course every bride wants a designed, hand made wedding dress; this is very expensive but savings can be made, especially if using a previously owned dress is considered. Many brides spend two to three thousand dollars (often more) on a wedding dress and only wear it once; why not make use of a beautiful dress that someone else has only worn once, for a fraction of the cost?
Planning the Reception
The bulk of the budget will be swallowed up by the wedding reception; statistics show that an average of 189 guests attend so when you are planning your cheap wedding, this is where most savings take place. You can reduce the number of people attending by not inviting those who are only at the periphery of your life which can include distant relatives; when it comes to the meal, instead a four course silver service, why not arrange a hot or cold buffet.
Other cost reductions can be made in where the wedding reception is held; it could take place in a friend’s house or a local club where money could be saved on beverages if they are supplied directly.
Wedding Photography
Although many photographers stay for the whole day, it is cheaper to only hire them for just the ceremony; placing disposable cameras on the tables for the guests to use has become a very popular option. You could, if you are brave, dispense with the services of a photographer completely; a friend or relative who is a keen photographer might be happy to do this for you!

Other areas where you can be assured of saving money is wedding invitations and other stationery; today’s home computers and printers are able to provide near professional results. With the correct programs, all the work can be checked fully before it is printed out; this means that often costly errors and adjustments that are often required in the early stages of the work are not made.
Wedding Floral Arrangements
There are also savings to be made with the flower displays; there is no reason why the flowers cannot be purchased from a wholesaler just as florists do. Many people have friends who are very capable cooks and love to bake so why not let them bake a two or three tier wedding cake; this can be made from sponge or even a chocolate cake which tends to be favorite amongst people these days.
Wedding Cars and Limousines
A friend’s car could be used as the transportation to the ceremony to make further savings; many have very nice cars and it makes a pleasant change.
