Make Hot Flashes Only a Memory.
March 6, 2008 – 5:08 amHot flashes are a common part of menopause for most women, along with other various symptoms. Hot flashes raise the heartbeat rate and can cause a woman to feel flushed, hot, and stressed. There are many treatments that claim to reduce hot flashes.
Treatments for general menopause symptoms are the first place to start when you are seeking a solution to hot flashes. By treating the condition, rather than the symptom, you may be able to alleviate more than one issue. Because there are so many symptoms associated with menopause, this is a good base to build on.
Menopause is not a disease to be cured, it is a natural process and can be treated with natural remedies such as herbs. Plants and herbs often have less severe side effects and can be experimented with without a doctor’s prescription.
Prescription medications can also be taken to control hot flashes and menopause, but of course with more possible side effects and only with a doctor’s permission. Talking with your doctor is the best thing you can do if considering this treatment option.
Estrogen is a hormone widely prescribed to women with menopause. This is called hormone replacement therapy, and is very common but not without possible dangers. The estrogen can be administered orally or with patches.
The downside of hormone replacement therapy is that it can increase your risk of cancer and stroke. Make sure you ask your doctor about these risks, as well as other side effects, if you are considering this treatment.
Various alternative treatments are on the market as well. This allows the treatment of these symptoms to be flexible, as each person is different. A variety of other prescription medications that are on the market include, SSRI’s, clonidine, Megace and Gabapentin. These may or may not work more effectively for you in preventing hot flashes.
With all the treatment options available, no woman should have to go through menopause without help. Research can be done on the internet or by asking questions of doctors or other women going through menopause.
